Welcome to Scriptoria

I heard this on television once and it sums me up perfectly: "Everybody's pal; nobody's gal."

I took a test on the Lazboy website - the Style Finder. According to LB, "You are a blend of Casual Chic & Eclectic! You are self-assured, and balance passion and purpose. You are devoted to your family and friends, and enjoy entertaining at home. You are independent with a broad range of interests. An artistic original, you are creative, intelligent, and capable. You break with conformity."

I can't help it. I love Longaberger baskets. But I miss the days when they weren't even made until a customer placed an order. It's no secret that they're hurting now. I think they over-reached. I want to buy BASKETS from Longaberger, not jewelry and purses and the hoards of other junk that they've been pushing on fans.

Hence, I was THRILLED when I received this Letter from Longaberger.

My absolute favorite joke:

Never Argue with a Woman

MY PERSONAL ADVERTISEMENT

Stressed, myopic, obsessive-compulsive computer nerd finally emerging from the shell of obesity - 65 pounds and counting. College graduate, secure job, homeowner, annoyingly responsible. I enjoy reading , writing, collecting DVDs, working around the house, gardening, traveling, Howard Stern. Seeking "sensitive pony-tail man." Prefer dark hair and eyes. A handyman would be nice. A willingness to listen to me complain about homeownership a big plus. I dislike snobs, slobs and golfers.

Here's something to commemorate my 50th birthday. I LOVE The Onion. Check out the article Local Water Tower Celebrates 50th Year As Repository Of Information On Who Is A Slut

Excerpt:

"CONCORDIA, MO—Residents marked the 50th anniversary of the Concordia water tower Tuesday, honoring a structure that for generations has been the community's most comprehensive source of information on who is a slut.

Historians say information on whether or not Whitney Olsen got the whole baseball team off would otherwise have been lost to time."

This just about sums up how I feel about Oprah. :-)

The Onion, one of my favorite websites, has written some of the best "stories" about Oprah. Hands down, my favorite is Oprah Viewers Patiently Awaiting Instructions

My second favorite The Onion article: Father Teaching Daughter How To Drive Stick In Empty Browns Parking Lot

Here's a wonderful Time Magazine photo article called 16 of History's Most Rebellious Women

Here's a Dispatch article that didn't make me cringe (a rarity these days):

I LOVE to collect images related to reading and books. I actually have a small collection of ceramic bookstores and libraries in my library. I've stashed some of my favorite pictures in my smugmug account. Click here.

My House's First Gift

Before I bought my first (and current) house, I found a reproduction of a painting that captured my love of books. The price was (I believe) over $200 and at the time, spending that kind of money on something I couldn’t wear or eat made me nervous. I sprang for it, though. I figured it was a “gift” for my new home. Here’s the painting that has been hanging in my bedroom since 1990.
